As irregular transfers of refugees and migrants intensify, the need for security and the protection of human rights are colliding and coexisting.<\/p><p>The more this phenomenon evolves, the more differentiated the criminal law becomes. In an effort to better protect human rights, bar associations in areas such as Igoumenitsa, Ioannina and Corfu, but also in the rest of Greece, are trying to create a better legislative framework.\u00a0<\/p><h2>The role of European legislation in the fight against the transfer of irregular migrants<\/h2><p>European countries have adopted legislation that provides for severe penalties for illegal transporters. The role of European legislation is crucial in order to ensure fair penalties and to tackle the illegal transport of migrants.<\/p><p>In areas such as Corfu, Igoumenitsa and Ioannina, the penalties for the illegal transport of migrants range from one year in prison to life imprisonment, depending of course on the case.
